Homeward Bound

THE MISSION CONTINUES.

As we begin our journey home today, our suitcases may be lighter than when we arrived—but the greatest things we carry cannot be packed.

  • We carry the smiles of children who welcomed us with open arms.

  • We carry the prayers shared in humble chapels perched high in the mountains.

  • We carry the stories, struggles, hopes, & faith of the families who invited us into their lives.

  • We carry the laughter, friendships, & bonds formed among our fellow missionaries.

  • Perhaps most importantly, we carry a deeper understanding of God's love.

IN SERVING OTHERS, WE ENCOUNTERED CHRIST.

Over the past week, we came to Honduras believing we were bringing something to others. Yet many of us leave realizing we have received far more than we could ever give.

We witnessed Christ in the eyes of a child eager to learn. We encountered Him in a patient seeking care, a grandmother offering a blessing, a family sharing what little they had, & in the faithful villagers who continue to trust God despite life's challenges.

The mountains of Honduras have a way of teaching us that faith is not measured by what we possess, but by whom we trust.

As we return home, may we resist the temptation to leave this experience behind. Instead, let us carry its lessons into our daily lives.

  • The compassion we showed here is needed at home.

  • The patience we practiced here is needed at home.

  • The generosity, gratitude, & faith we witnessed here are needed at home.

MISSION IS NOT A PLACE WE VISIT. MISSION IS A WAY OF LIVING.

Were not our hearts burning within us while He spoke to us on the way?
— Luke 24:32

May our hearts continue to burn with the same love, purpose, & gratitude that brought us to Honduras.

  • Thank you for answering God's call.

  • Thank you for serving with joyful hearts & willing hands.

  • Thank you for becoming Christ's presence to those we encountered.

  • And thank you for allowing God to work within you.

As we travel home to Texas, let us remember: The mission trip may be ending, but the mission continues.

THE MOUNTAINS MAY BE BEHIND US, BUT THE MISSION REMAINS WITH US.

As we return home, remember that the mission does not end when we unpack our bags. The stories, encounters, & moments of grace we have experienced are gifts meant to be shared.

There are people in our parish, our families, our workplaces, & our communities who may never travel to Honduras. Through your testimony, they can still encounter the faith, joy, resilience, & hope that we witnessed in these mountain villages.

CARRY THE MISSION HOME.

Do not be afraid to share what God has done in your heart. Tell the stories. Share the photos. Speak about the people who inspired you. Let others see how Christ was present throughout this mission. Your witness may be the very thing God uses to inspire another person to answer His call to serve.

Go and tell what the Lord has done for you.
— Mark 5:19

And as you reflect on all that has unfolded this week, prayerfully consider where God may be leading you next. For many of us, Honduras has become more than a destination—it has become part of our faith journey. If God places it on your heart, we hope you will continue this mission with us in the years ahead.

The villages will continue to need prayers. The children will continue to need encouragement. The families will continue to need support. And new missionaries will need someone to share the story of why answering God's call is worth it.

Perhaps that someone will be you.

KEEP THE MISSION ALIVE. SHARE YOUR STORY.
