WHAT WE DO

A Dream Fulfilled. A Vision Alive.

After years of prayer and preparation, the Honduras Mission of St. Anthony of Padua embraced its first mission trip in 2014.

OUR HUMBLE BEGINNING

Around the year 2000, the Franciscan University of Steubenville began serving two remote mountain communities near Trujillo, Honduras. In 2010, our beloved Deacon Mike Mims joined their annual spring break mission. It was there that his dream took root: to establish an annual, week-long medical and dental mission from our parish.

The villages of La Colonia and El Mirador were located seven hours from the nearest international airport. The final miles required four-wheel drive vehicles over rugged dirt roads — passable only in good weather. The communities lacked reliable access to running water and electricity. The needs were immense, and the logistical challenges were significant.

Undeterred, Deacon Mims began building partnerships. He collaborated with the Franciscan School in San Pedro Sula, partnered with Deacon Mike Mort, and rallied our parish community to bring the dream to life.

In October 2014, that dream became reality. More than 50 missionaries served these villages for a week — providing medical and dental care, catechesis, and the sacraments. What began as a single mission trip has grown into a sustained, annual commitment to both physical care and spiritual renewal.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Bearing witness to the Word of God, the Honduras Mission promotes the dignity of life by healing the sick, celebrating the Sacraments, fostering education, and making disciples.

WHY HONDURAS?

Located in Central America, Honduras has been blessed with natural resources & beyond kind people; however, most of its population lives in extreme poverty. STAOP tirelessly works to assist, bringing transformation in the communities that we have essentially adopted through God & His purpose.

What the Lord requires of you: only to do justice, and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God.
