ACROSS THE WATER TO QUINITO
ACROSS THE WATER: A NEW MISSION FRONTIER.
In 2026, the Honduras Mission took a historic step forward as the team extended its outreach by boat to remote coastal communities for the first time.
“He led them safely, so they were unafraid.”
In villages like Quinito & Plan Grande, entire communities gathered in joy & anticipation as medical care, catechesis, & the love of Christ were brought directly to their shores. What the team encountered was both great need & extraordinary faith. From overflowing clinics to children learning about God’s creation, from home visits in the mountains to Mass in humble village churches, each moment revealed the same truth: these communities are deeply open to the Gospel, yet remain among the most underserved.
As the mission continues to expand into these boat-accessible regions, the needs are growing far beyond what the current resources can meet.
Your support makes this work possible.
Whether through prayer, financial giving, or discerning a call to serve on a future mission team, you can help bring medical care, catechesis, & the hope of Christ to families who otherwise have limited access to both healthcare & pastoral care.
Together, we can continue crossing the water—not just to reach villages, but to bring Christ’s love to every shore.
PART 1: QUINITO - CROSSING WATERS TO BRING HEALING.
The frontier team consisted of Dr. Marco, Dr. Carlos, Dr. Abdul (dentist), Nurse Joey, Nurse Rachel from La Finca, Father Francisco, Father Luta, Father Samuel, & Linda (co-owner of Tranquility Bay). They departed shortly before sunrise, boarding their boat at 6:45 a.m. under clear skies & calm waters.
BEAUTY ALONG THE JOURNEY.
The journey to these remote coastal villages of Honduras was filled with moments that reminded us of God's magnificent creation & the profound joy of missionary service.
As the boat traveled along the shoreline, breathtaking vistas unfolded in every direction amid crystal blue waters. Each mile brought renewed wonder. It was more than a scenic voyage; it was the perfect beginning to another extraordinary day of faith, service, & unforgettable encounters that would touch hearts for years to come.
As the intrepid missionaries navigated the coastal waters, dolphins surfaced beside the boat, delighting everyone on board. The coastline was breathtaking, with small fishing villages nestled against the hillsides, colorful homes perched high above the water, & lush green mountains stretching toward the horizon.
But what awaited the team at their destination was even more beautiful.
As the boat approached the village of Quinito, Father Luta & a large group of community members were waiting on the shore. The children proudly held handmade welcome banners while families gathered to greet the team with smiles & excitement. Their joy at the missionaries' arrival was overwhelming.
After unloading supplies, they quickly transformed the local school into a medical & dental clinic. Dr. Carlos saw patients in one classroom while Dr. Marco, Nurse Joey, Dr. Abdul, & Nurse Rachel worked in another. Father Francisco helped organize the steady flow of patients, ensuring that everyone was seen efficiently & with dignity.
WELCOMED WITH OPEN HEARTS.
The beauty of Honduras extends far beyond its mountains & coastline—it shines brightest in the hearts of its people. As the missionaries arrived in Quinito, they were welcomed with open arms by Father Luta & an enthusiastic crowd of villagers.
Children proudly displayed handmade banners while families gathered along the shore, their smiles & excitement creating a heartfelt reminder that the greatest blessings of mission are often found in the relationships we share.
WHERE CHILDREN MET THE LOVE OF CHRIST.
Meanwhile, Father Luta & Linda spent time with the youngest members of the community in the kindergarten classroom.
The session began with a dental hygiene lesson & the distribution of toothbrushes & toothpaste. Then came crafts, coloring, & catechesis. Each child received a bag containing a paper plate, crayons, stickers, & a bracelet proclaiming a simple but powerful truth: "Jesus Loves Me."
The day's lesson focused on Creation. Father Luta captivated the children as he spoke about God's creation & asked them to identify animals, stars, the sun, the moon, and all the beautiful things God has made. Twenty-eight eager children colored, decorated, & shared their excitement as they learned about God's love for them.
And of course, no visit would be complete without fútbol.
Soon, the playground was alive with laughter as Fathers Samuel & Luta challenged the kindergarten children to a spirited match. Parents, teachers, & siblings cheered from the sidelines. At one point, a child fell. Father Luta immediately scooped him up, dusted him off, & sent him back into the game with a smile.
As our team watched the laughter, encouragement, & joy on that field, we were reminded that this was about far more than a playful game. Every child on that field knew they were seen, loved, & important.
What a beautiful reflection of Christ's love.
By noon, the medical team had already cared for more than fifty patients. The community then surprised the missionaries with freshly made chicken pastelitos & natural fruit juice—a generous act of hospitality from people who have so little materially yet give so freely.
MADE WITH JOY. LOVED BY GOD.
A child's artwork can tell a powerful story. With a bright smile & great pride, this young boy eagerly displays his masterpiece, a colorful reminder of God's wonderful Creation & the joy of learning about His love.
Through crafts, catechesis, & simple acts of kindness, Father Luta & Linda helped the youngest members of the community discover an important truth: they are uniquely created, deeply loved, & wonderfully made by God.
CHRIST MET THEM IN EVERY HOME.
The afternoon was devoted to home visits.
Accompanied by Father Luta, Dr. Marco, & Nurse Joey, the team crossed cool mountain streams & climbed lush hillsides to visit families with significant medical needs. Along the way, the words of Psalm 23 echoed in Linda’s heart: "He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul."
One of the visits was to Milagra, an eight-year-old girl with cerebral palsy. Last year, Linda was able to provide her with a wheelchair. Today, she has outgrown it. Her devoted mother carries her everywhere, bathes her, & cares for her around the clock. The team was inspired by her strength but also concerned about the future & how we might continue supporting this family.
Another stop brought the missionaries to a stroke victim whose blood pressure had once been measured at a dangerous 280/102. Months ago, through the generosity of mission supporters, medication, adult diapers, & a wheelchair were delivered to him by boat. His wife faithfully cares for him while also caring for their severely disabled son. Their current need is a walker that can better navigate the terrain around their home.
The team also revisited a diabetic man confined to a wheelchair. Earlier this year, medication had been sent to him through local contacts. The team was encouraged to find his blood sugar under control and his spirits high. Yet new needs emerged as his son was found to have dangerously elevated blood sugar & blood pressure levels requiring immediate medical attention.
One of the final visits was to the oldest couple in the village. The husband, now 100 years old, remains remarkably healthy. His wife, in her nineties, appeared frail & tired, spending most of her time sleeping. Sitting quietly beside her, Linda couldn't help but think she may be preparing for her journey home to the Lord.
By the end of the afternoon, the mission clinic had cared for nearly one hundred people.
HEAVEN MET THEM AT MASS.
Then came Mass. Nothing could have prepared the mission team for the profound experience that awaited them.
The church was filled to capacity. Families arrived dressed in their finest clothing. Music echoed through the building. Joy, reverence, peace, & love seemed to pour from every corner. As the Mass unfolded, tears filled Linda’s eyes.
Men knelt before Christ in humble worship. Community leaders knelt. Mothers knelt. Teachers knelt. Children sang and prayed with extraordinary sincerity. The faith of this community was vibrant, alive, & deeply rooted.
Led by Father Francisco, Father Luta, & Father Samuel, the liturgy became far more than a service—it became a profound encounter with Christ.
The extraordinary faith & joy witnessed during that Mass would remain etched in the hearts of the mission team long after the journey home.
THEY CAME TO SERVE. THEY LEFT CHANGED.
Eventually, it was time to leave.
The shoreline was rocky, & waves crashed against the beach. For the villagers, it was simply part of daily life. Seeing some of the missionaries' hesitation, several of the men graciously carried the women through the water and safely into the boat.
As the boat pulled away from shore & the village slowly faded into the distance, the mission team sat quietly, reflecting on all they had experienced. Their thoughts were not on the breathtaking coastline that surrounded them, but on the families they had visited, the needs they had witnessed, & the remarkable faith they had encountered.
They had traveled to Quinito with hearts prepared to serve, yet they departed with hearts forever changed by the people they had come to love.
CROSSING WATERS, SHARING HOPE.
These new boat-accessible communities represent an exciting frontier for our mission. The medical, spiritual, & humanitarian needs are significant, but so too is the opportunity to bring Christ's love to families who often have limited access to healthcare & pastoral care.
As we look toward future missions, we invite you to join us.
Pray for these families.
Support the mission financially.
Or consider becoming a missionary yourself.
The waters may separate these villages from the mainland, but they do not separate them from the love of Christ—or from us.
