VBS DAILY LESSON PLAN
VBS 2027 promises to be an exciting, joy-filled adventure as children discover the wonder of God's unwavering love & faithfulness!
Through inspiring Bible stories, interactive activities, music, crafts, & games, children will journey alongside Elijah as he learns that God is always with us, even when we feel alone. They will marvel at Joseph's story & discover that even in difficult times, God is always good.
As the week unfolds, children will experience the incredible mercy of Jesus through Peter's story of forgiveness, learning that when we make mistakes, God is faithful to forgive us. VBS DAILY CRAFT LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Every part of our 2027 VBS program—from Bible study to crafts—is intentionally designed to create meaningful moments where children encounter the Gospel each day. Our daily crafts are more than just fun activities; they are powerful tools that bring each biblical theme to life, turning spiritual truths into tangible experiences that engage the senses & help faith take root in young hearts.
Through hands-on creativity, children connect with Bible stories in memorable ways, allowing the lessons to stay with them long after the day ends. Each craft becomes a keepsake they can take home—a visual reminder of what they’ve learned & a simple way to share the message of the Gospel with their families.
Craft time also creates a relaxed & welcoming space where our VBS team can build trust, share meaningful conversations, & embrace the teachable moments that naturally unfold.
Before our boots hit the ground next year, take time to explore the learning objectives (to be published in 2027) & become familiar with the crafts that will help bring this mission to life.
KNOW THE PURPOSE, THEME & BIBLE LESSONS
Determine Your Purpose: Before teaching, take a moment to reflect on why VBS matters & what God is calling you to accomplish through this ministry. Our goal is not simply to entertain children, but to help them encounter Christ, grow in faith, & experience God's love through our words & actions.
Become Familiar with the Bible Lessons: Effective teaching begins with preparation. Before traveling to Honduras, review the daily lessons, Scripture passages, & key teaching points whenever possible. Pray over the biblical content & ask God to first apply the lessons to your own heart. Take note of each day's theme, Bible story, & main takeaway. The more familiar you are with the material, the more confident & flexible you will be when teaching.
Connect the Theme to the Truth: Remember that the theme is a tool—not the destination. While themes help capture children's attention & create excitement, the Bible lesson is always the heart of the program. Use the theme to reinforce biblical truths, ensuring that every activity, discussion, & teaching moment points children back to God's Word & His love for them.
Note: The Honduras VBS program will be condensed into four days. As a result, lessons may be combined or adjusted. The final teaching schedule will be shared as we approach the mission trip.
IMPROVE OUR TEACHING SKILLS
As we prepare for our next mission, it is important to remember that our goal is not simply to teach lessons, but to help children experience God's love through our words, actions, & example. We all want our VBS sessions to be engaging, meaningful, & fun. We want the children to learn, grow in faith, & feel valued as members of God's family.
While no teacher is perfect, every missionary can continue to grow & develop their teaching skills. Each mission provides new opportunities to learn what works well, adapt to challenges, & become more effective communicators of the Gospel. Most importantly, we should never forget that God is already at work in the hearts of the children we serve. Our role is simply to be faithful instruments of His love & grace.
As we plan for future missions, let us keep in mind that one of the most powerful lessons we can teach is the love we show each child. A warm smile, a kind word, a patient response, or a listening ear can leave a lasting impact long after the mission ends.
With that spirit in mind, here are a few suggestions to help strengthen our VBS ministry & enhance the experience for both our missionaries and the children we serve:
-
You will not be able to improve without God’s wisdom & help.
-
It doesn’t matter how good your teaching methods are if you are not accurately teaching the Word of God.
-
Find out what they like to do in school. Ask them how they like to learn.
Try this:
• Get on the child’s level & maintain direct eye contact. This may mean you need to get on your knees, squat down or sit in a chair.
• Listen attentively (in the same way you would like to be listened to).
• Talk about things you have in common (freckles, dark hair, taste in food, number of siblings).
• Ask the child for his or her opinion on a topic.
• Compliment the child’s actions & choices & not just how the child looks or dresses.
• Say the child’s name often.
Avoid this:
• Do not rush the child but listen patiently.
• Do not make everything a lesson or lecture. Just enjoy getting to know the child better.
• Do not force conversation when a child is not in the mood to talk.
-
You will learn new things & find out which methods you would like to use, & which methods would not. Even the most experienced teacher can be energized by observing someone else teach.
