THE WILL OF GOD & THE WORD OF LIFE: A MOMENT TO REMEMBER
Think of a recent moment when you knew what the right or loving thing to do was—but you had to make a choice.
Perhaps you needed to apologize, even though you felt you were right.
You saw someone who needed help, but you were already tired or busy.
You were tempted to respond with anger instead of patience.
Someone hurt you, & you knew forgiveness was being asked of you.
Or maybe you sensed God inviting you to step outside your comfort zone.
Now bring that specific moment to mind.
“Be doers of the word and not hearers only.”
God's Word can be like a mirror. It shows us something about ourselves, our choices, & the way we are responding to the people & circumstances around us.
But seeing what is reflected in the mirror is only the beginning.
What are we going to do with what we see?
What if, instead of simply knowing what Scripture teaches, you chose to live it?
Instead of waiting for someone else to make the first move, you took the first step?
Instead of asking, “What do I want?”, you asked, “What is God asking of me?”
Instead of simply saying, “Lord, Lord,” you chose to do the Father's will?
The Word Becomes Action
God's Word isn't meant to remain on the page. It is meant to shape the way we live.
When we recognize an opportunity to put the Word of Life into action, we may not know exactly what will happen. We simply take the next faithful step.
We apologize.
We forgive.
We serve.
We listen.
We give.
We reach out.
We say yes.
That is where the Word becomes life.
And What Happened?
Perhaps the situation didn't immediately change.
Maybe the other person didn't respond the way you hoped.
Maybe the problem wasn't completely resolved.
Maybe doing the right thing required sacrifice.
Maybe you were still uncomfortable or uncertain.
But perhaps something changed within you.
A little more peace.
A greater sense of freedom.
A relationship began to heal.
Someone felt seen or valued.
You discovered courage you didn't know you had.
You experienced the quiet joy of knowing you had responded to God's invitation.
The mirror showed you something—and you chose to act.
And sometimes, that small act of obedience becomes the place where we discover the will of God.
ACROSS THE WATER: FAITH IN ACTION.
For families living in the remote coastal communities of Quinito & Plan Grande, access to medical care has long been limited by geography. Separated from the mainland by water, these communities can be reached only by boat. Recognizing the need, the Honduras Mission's Mobile Medical Unit was willing to go where the patients were. In 2026, the mission crossed the water.
Through the dedication of healthcare workers, missionaries, & local partners, the MMU brought medical care directly to these communities for the first time. This outreach was more than a medical mission. It was a powerful example of what happens when we move beyond simply hearing God's Word & choose to put it into action.
BRINGING GOD’S LOVE TO HONDURAS
This scripture speaks to the heart of our Honduras Mission. When our missionaries travel to Honduras, we don't go simply to accomplish projects, provide medical care, teach Vacation Bible School, or distribute supplies.
We go because God's Word calls us to put our faith into action.
A medical visit can become an encounter of compassion.
A lesson with a child can become an expression of encouragement.
Repairing a school can become an act of service.
Bringing water to a village can become a tangible expression of God's love.
Sharing a meal, listening to a story, praying with a family, or simply being present can become an opportunity to put God's Word into action.
The mission begins with hearing God's call—& that call is meant to continue long after we return home.
THE REAL SITUATION
Imagine knowing that families living in the coastal communities of Quinito & Plan Grande have limited access to medical care.
These communities are not easily reached. They can only be accessed by boat.
The need was real.
The obstacles were real.
But the mission team had a choice.
They could recognize the need, talk about it, & pray for those who were difficult to reach. Or they could go to them.
So the Mobile Medical Unit went.
In 2026, the team traveled to these two communities & provided care to 187 patients—87 in Quinito & 100 in Plan Grande.
It wasn't simply about bringing a medical team to a remote location.
It was about responding to a need that had been seen & recognized.
REMEMBERING THE WORD OF LIFE
In that moment, the missionary could recall: “Be doers of the word & not hearers only.”
The medical team could have simply known that people needed care.
Instead, they acted.
They got in the boat.
They traveled to the people who could not easily come to them.
And perhaps the missionary realized something even deeper: Sometimes doing God's will begins with simply being willing to go where the need is.
We don't always need to know the entire plan. We don't always need to know exactly what the result will be.
Sometimes God simply asks us to take the next faithful step.
WHAT RESULTED?
For the first time, the Mobile Medical Unit brought medical care directly to these remote communities, opening a new door of access, connection, & hope.
There was medical care.
Patients were seen.
Health concerns were identified.
Medications were provided.
But there was something more.
There was compassion, dignity, hope, & the tangible reminder that these communities had not been forgotten.
Here is where this example becomes especially powerful for EMBER.
The missionary can return home and ask:
“Where is God asking me to take action?”
Maybe it's reaching out to someone who is struggling.
Helping a neighbor who needs assistance.
Apologizing first.
Forgiving someone who has hurt you.
Volunteering when you've been hesitant.
Saying yes to an opportunity to serve.
Or simply noticing a need & choosing not to walk past it.
Because the lesson from Quinito & Plan Grande isn't simply “we brought medical care.”
It is: THE WORD BECAME ACTION.
Faith became action. Care crossed the water. And God's love reached those in need.
And that is a beautiful way to live James 1:22.
MISSIONARY RELECTION - THE WILL OF GOD
“I recall traveling by boat to Quinito & Plan Grande thinking about the people who had so few opportunities to receive medical care. We knew there was a need, but seeing it firsthand made those words of Scripture feel very real: ‘Be doers of the word & not hearers only.’ We could have talked about the need, prayed for the people, & hoped that somehow they would find a way to receive care. Instead, we went to them.
As a doctor, I was there to provide medical care, but I quickly realized that what we were offering was more than a medical visit. It was our willingness to go where the need was, to listen, to care, & to let people know that they mattered.
That experience changed the way I think about the Scripture. Sometimes being a ‘doer of the Word’ isn’t about doing something extraordinary. Sometimes it simply means seeing a need & taking the next step God places in front of you. In Quinito & Plan Grande, I saw that faith becomes powerful when we are willing to put it into action.”
