WHAT IS THE EMBER PROJECT?
The ST. ANTONY OF PADUA EMBER PROJECT is an invitation to let God's Word move from the pages of Scripture into the ordinary moments of our lives. Each month as individuals, we will focus on one short passage from Scripture—a Word of Life—& allow it to become something we pray with, reflect upon, & intentionally live. Like an ember that continues to glow & can ignite a flame, God's Word can take root within us & become a source of light for the way we live, serve, & love others.
“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us.”
THE HEART SHARING JOURNEY
Each monthly reflection follows a simple HEART SHARING process outlined below. The goal isn't to find the perfect answer or to have a dramatic experience. It is to notice God in the real circumstances of our daily lives & allow His Word to change the way we live.
ONE WORD. ONE STEP👣. ONE JOURNEY.

We begin by invoking the Holy Spirit, reading the Scripture passage slowly, & spending a moment in silence, allowing God's Word to speak to our hearts.

We recall a specific situation from our own lives—a conversation, a challenge, a relationship, a moment of fear, frustration, joy, or need.

We ask ourselves: Where was God inviting me to live this Scripture?
How could the Word of Life shape my response, my choices, or the way I see another person?

We take a step toward putting God's Word into action. Then we reflect on what happened.
Perhaps there was greater peace, a repaired relationship, renewed patience, unexpected joy, or simply a deeper awareness of God's presence.

The EMBER PROJECT reminds us that God's Word is alive.
It meets us where we are.
It speaks into our relationships, our families, our workplaces, our parish communities—and even our mission journeys.
Let’s unite as a mission team as we explore a new Word of Life monthly & consider how we can carry it with us to Honduras, allowing the flame of God's love to grow brighter through the way we live & love.

At our Core Team Meetings plus when we start to meet as an entire group for 2027 mission preparations, we'll pause with a short passage of Scripture & explore how it speaks to our real-life experiences, relationships, challenges, & opportunities to love.

The Word of Life: God Is Love
The Scripture: 1 John 4:16
“God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.”
GOD IS LOVE.
We can read those three words quickly. But what happens when we allow them to shape the way we see our day?

The Word of Life: The Will of God & Doers of the World
The Scripture: James 1:22 & Matthew 7:21
“For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is a man who looks at his own face in the mirror.”
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.”
James gives us a powerful image to help us understand what it means to receive God's Word.
We look in a mirror to see ourselves as we really are. But simply seeing our reflection doesn't change anything. We have to do something with what we see.
The same is true when we encounter God's Word.
FROM HEARING THE WORD TO LIVING IT IN HONDURAS

The Word of Life: Love For Neighbor& Mutual Love,Love One Another
The Scripture: 1 John 4:7
“Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.”
John doesn't tell us simply to feel love for one another. He gives us an invitation: Let us love one another.
Love becomes something we choose, something we offer, & something we receive.

The Word of Life: Jesus in the Midst
The Scripture: Matthew 18:20
“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
Jesus doesn't promise to be present only in churches, chapels, or moments that feel holy & peaceful.
He promises to be in our midst whenever we gather in His name.
That means He is present…
In our families.
In our friendships.
In our parish community.
In our service to others.
And sometimes, He is present in the most unexpected moments.

The Word of Life: Unity
The Scripture: John 17:20–21
“I pray not only for them, but also for those who believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.”
As we begin a new year, the EMBER Project invites us to reflect on a prayer that Jesus prayed for His followers—and for us: “That they may all be one.”
Unity was on Jesus' heart.
Not uniformity.
Not everyone thinking alike.
Not everyone having the same gifts, personalities, experiences, or opinions.
A willingness to remain connected in Christ even when we are different.

The EMBER PROJECT reminds us that Scripture is not meant to remain on the page.
It is meant to become visible in the way we live, serve, forgive, love, & walk with one another.
That is also the heart of our Honduras Mission: to encounter Christ, to share His love, & to allow that love to become visible through our lives.
