Returning Home…But Never Returning the Same.
"When is the next mission?"
For many who have served in Honduras, that question begins long before the airplane touches down back in Texas.
After your first mission trip, you may have asked yourself, "Is this really it? Do I just go back to my regular life now?"
Coming home can be one of the most challenging parts of the mission experience. After days spent immersed in prayer, worship, authentic Christian fellowship, & serving others with a singular purpose, returning to everyday routines can feel strangely difficult. The emails begin piling up, schedules fill, distractions return, Netflix binge-watching sessions fill your days & life resumes its familiar pace.
Yet something inside you has changed.
The truth is, what you experienced on the mountain wasn't an escape from real life—it was a glimpse of what life looks like when we fully embrace Christ's call to love & serve others.
Every patient cared for, every child who laughed during Vacation Bible School, every prayer shared, every smile exchanged, every difficult trail climbed, & every act of kindness became a living reminder that God is constantly at work. Those moments were not extraordinary because they happened in Honduras. They were extraordinary because God was present in them.
The beautiful reality is that the same God who met us in the mountains of Honduras is waiting to meet us in our homes, our workplaces, our parishes, & our communities each and every day.
“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”
Our mission doesn't end when we board the plane & leave Honduras. It simply continues wherever God leads us.
That truth became especially evident during the years when the COVID-19 pandemic prevented us from returning. Although the mission had helped provide medical care, educational support, infrastructure improvements, clean water, & spiritual formation over many years, the villages simply could not sustain many of those efforts without ongoing partnership.
Healthcare remains scarce. Educational resources remain limited. Maintenance of buildings and utilities continues to be an ongoing challenge. The needs are still there—& so are the people we've come to know & love.
During our scouting trip in March 2023, we were reminded just how much those relationships matter. As we entered the villages, children came running with bright smiles & joyful excitement. They remembered us. They asked when we were coming back. When we told them we planned to return that June, their faces lit up with hope. It was a moment we'll never forget.
Because while we may arrive thinking we're bringing something to Honduras, we soon realize that the people there have given us something far greater. They have taught us what unwavering faith looks like. They have shown us joy in the midst of hardship, gratitude in the face of scarcity, & the beauty of trusting completely in God's providence.
Mission work is never just about constructing buildings, providing healthcare, teaching children, or delivering supplies.
It is about building the Kingdom of God - one Relationship, one act of Service, & one Heart at a time.
The mountain has become more than a destination. It has become a place where lives are transformed. And when God changes your heart on the mountain, He intends for that transformation to continue long after you've returned home. So whether this was your first mission or your tenth, remember that your calling did not end at the airport.
Carry the joy you found.
Share the hope you witnessed.
Live the faith you experienced.
And when God opens the door once again... Answer the call.
"Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?
Here I am. Send me!"
