Changing the lives of the El Mirador villagers
Water in the Bible symbolizes faith, salvation, & provision.
Revelation 21:6 talks about the “water of life” that God gives freely to those who are thirsty. This water represents eternal life & the work of the Holy Spirit.
Biblical passages such as, “For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants” (Isaiah 44:3) remind us that water is life & a gift from God. Without water & the Spirit, we cannot live.
Water is essential for the human body to function properly & is one of the six nutrients necessary for life. But imagine waking up each morning worrying about something as basic as your family not having enough safe drinking water to get through the day.
As Americans we take this for GRANTED however for the villagers of El Mirador this was only a dream…until THIS YEAR:
August 2nd, 2024.
Unlike La Colonia & La Esperancita, El Mirador remained the only community we served that had no direct access to a safe water source for drinking, cleaning & laundry. The woman & children bore the primary responsibility of daily water collection, a natural spring located far above their village or resort to using the creek water adjacent to their homes.
Obviously our doctors & nurses would see more cases of gastrointestinal illnesses, nervous system & reproductive effects while on mission each year that could be contributed to water that contained an unsafe level of contaminants.
After many years of planning that first began with Deacons Mike Mimms & Mike Mort leading the charge, passing the baton to Father Luta Nsubuga…
Many discussions with the local government as well as the landowner, water filters with missionaries training the proper use of, delivering pipes to the area from the USA, engineers that volunteered their expertise, countless locals who dug over a mile of trenches as well as our mission team & our parish’s fundraising support…….. we are joyful to announce that water is now flowing in El Mirador!
Our job is not yet done as we will need to continue to provide maintenance, improvements & repairs as needed. This is part of our overall vision: “Honduras 365” by focusing on what we can do year-round to serve these villages; not simply the week we spend on the mountain.
